BALTS 2011

Idea and inspirations
The project searches for the origins of the longing for nature and the Balts’ ethnic identity in the 21st century urban space. The project asks the question: who is he, the contemporary Balt, who uses the newest technology to find authenticity in the midst of communicational chaos? The collection presents newly interpreted ancient Baltic symbols: the winged grass-snake, three nines, the goddess Laima’s footsteps, the moon symbol, the grass-snake symbol.

Fabrics
Viscose, tricot, flax, cotton, wool, raincoat fabric.

Results
Functional grey-toned or black t-shirts, coats, sweatshirts, and universal bags. The collection was presented at the Vilnius Tourist Information Centre, where a 24/7 virtual exhibition of The Balts was on display for two weeks, using a video projection inside and a large TV screen coupled with a specially designed accessory stand in the centre’s window.
